Case Study
Replacing a Legacy Risk Platform with a Unified Credit Intelligence System
RapidRatings, a financial services risk-intelligence provider, partnered with Roko Labs to replace its legacy HealthMark product with a CreditSafe-powered credit intelligence and supplier risk monitoring platform. Delivered in four months, the engagement unified multiple data sources, enabled real-time monitoring across global suppliers, and introduced a transparent usage-based pricing model.

The Problem: Legacy Risk Platform Limitations
RapidRatings’ legacy product, HealthMark, was originally designed as a lightweight alternative to more comprehensive financial risk assessment tools. Over time, however, it became increasingly difficult to maintain as a competitive supplier risk monitoring platform. Limited data depth, inconsistent coverage, and insufficient accuracy created gaps in the product’s reliability and usefulness for clients.
Clients began to expect more robust insights, including richer financial data, broader global company coverage, and more actionable risk signals. HealthMark’s underlying data providers could not consistently meet these expectations, leading to declining confidence in the product and increasing pressure to modernize the credit risk intelligence solution.
At the same time, RapidRatings’ platform ecosystem had grown complex. Core workflows such as unified search and supplier management relied on multiple disconnected data sources, including FHR, HealthMark, and Outreach. These systems were only loosely integrated, creating fragmented user experiences, limited data integration, and operational inefficiencies across the third-party risk management workflow, what is a pattern we’ve also tackled in our data warehouse modernization work.
Compounding the challenge, the business needed to manage a delicate transition. Existing clients still depended on HealthMark, while new clients required a more modern CreditSafe integration and risk intelligence experience. The shift to CreditSafe also introduced a fundamentally different usage-based pricing model based on credits instead of flat fees, requiring both technical and product redesign.
The Vision: A Unified Credit Intelligence Platform
RapidRatings set out to replace HealthMark with a modern, data-rich credit risk intelligence solution powered by CreditSafe, while preserving continuity for existing users. The goal was not simply to swap data providers, but to evolve the platform into a more scalable and competitive credit intelligence offering.
At the product level, success meant delivering a unified experience where users could seamlessly search, evaluate, and monitor companies across multiple data sources in a single interface. This included blending CreditSafe company data with existing internal datasets to create a comprehensive supplier risk view.
Operationally, the platform needed to support real-time access to global company data, with significantly expanded coverage and richer financial insights. It also needed to introduce new capabilities such as portfolio monitoring, real-time alerting, and usage tracking tied to a credit-based pricing model.
From a user perspective, the ideal future state was more transparent and actionable. Users would clearly understand when usage credits were consumed, easily manage monitored companies, and gain immediate visibility into supplier risk exposure across their portfolios.
Critically, the transition needed to be seamless. Existing workflows such as unified search and supplier views had to support both legacy and new data sources during migration, minimizing disruption while gradually shifting users to the new CreditSafe-powered system.
The Approach: Platform Modernization, UX Design and CreditSafe API Integration
Roko Labs approached the engagement as a combined platform transformation and product redesign, delivered within a focused four-month timeline, with emphasis on CreditSafe API integration, data unification, and a continuous migration path for existing clients. (See more of our financial services transformation work.)
Discovery and System Mapping
The team analyzed RapidRatings’ existing architecture and workflows, drawing on our user research and product management practices, to understand how risk data moved across the system and where CreditSafe integration points were required. This mapping laid the foundation for unifying FHR, HealthMark, Outreach, and CreditSafe on a single platform.
Unified Search and Data Integration
Unified search was extended to include CreditSafe as a fourth data source. Results were merged, labeled by source, and dynamically filtered, creating a consistent supplier discovery experience across datasets and giving users a single point of entry into all risk data.
Product and UX Expansion
New product surfaces were introduced, including CreditSafe profile pages, dashboards, and portfolio management tools, built using our product design approach. These capabilities shifted the experience from static lookup to active supplier monitoring and decision support, aligning the UX with modern third-party risk management expectations.
Monitoring and Workflow Design
Client-managed lists were tightly integrated with CreditSafe monitoring portfolios. Adding or removing a company automatically triggered monitoring updates, enabling real-time risk alerts through webhook integrations — so changes in a supplier’s financial health surface to the right users immediately.
Migration Strategy
A hybrid migration approach automated high-confidence matches between legacy and CreditSafe records and surfaced lower-confidence cases for manual review. This balanced efficiency with data accuracy and continuity for existing HealthMark users moving to the new credit intelligence platform.
Pricing and Usage Integration
The system was redesigned to support a credit-based, usage-based pricing model. User actions such as report views and refreshes were tracked and surfaced through dashboards, providing transparency into usage and consumption and giving clients clear visibility into how each action draws against their credit balance.
Client Perspective
“We experienced a lot of issues with HealthMark over the years… data depth, data quality, coverage, the accuracy… clients wanted more from the product that we just weren’t able to get. Our aim is to transfer over clients who are currently on HealthMark to CreditSafe and get new clients onto CreditSafe… replace HealthMark with CreditSafe across all our client-facing platforms.”
