Problem
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) plays a critical role in global nuclear oversight, ensuring environmental integrity, compliance, and safety across international jurisdictions. Their legacy platform supported complex scientific and environmental sampling workflows. Over time, however, the system became increasingly fragmented: • Disconnected datasets across environments • Limited cross-functional visibilityComplex navigation structures and dense UI • Manual processes slowing analysis cycles • Strict international security and compliance requirements The IAEA needed more than incremental upgrades. They needed a modern, secure analytics platform capable of supporting global regulatory operations — without compromising governance or data integrity.
Our Vision
Discovery research uncovered key platform issues through stakeholder feedback, usability tests, and interviews. Insights shaped project goals, and Roko proposed workflow improvements alongside a full UI/UX redesign—focusing on clarity, ease of navigation, and tool accessibility. Iterative wireframes were refined with user input, resulting in a more intuitive and visually cohesive experience. Roko modernized IAEA’s platform while aligning with internal processes, ensuring secure, stable, and efficient data handling to support critical scientific analysis and informed policy-making. During this work, Roko also became an official UN vendor.

Approach
Problem
Roko Labs partnered with IAEA to design and build ESEE (Environmental Sample Evaluation Environment) — a next-generation analytics platform engineered for secure, mission-critical environments.
The VMC Group offers bespoke design, engineering, and production services tailored to the needs of industrial OEM, commercial construction, and military & aerospace sectors. They faced challenges with extended sales cycles lasting anywhere from 2 to 14 days, necessitating considerable manual effort from their engineering team. Their ability to scale was constrained by a heavy reliance on manual processes. The absence of technological efficiencies implied that their sales procedures were not easily replicable.

Solution
Delivering advanced analytics within a global regulatory environment required more than technical modernization — it demanded architectural precision and institutional trust. The IAEA operates on vast volumes of complex scientific and environmental data, spanning multiple formats, ingestion pipelines, and international reporting standards. Analysts needed the ability to perform sophisticated evaluations and generate timely insights without compromising data integrity, traceability, or compliance with strict international security frameworks.
